The Jersey Devil is a legendary creature said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of Southern New Jersey in the United States. It is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but many variations exist. The most common depiction is of a kangaroo-like creature with the head of a goat, leathery bat-like wings, horns, clawed hands, and a forked tail. It is reputed to move quickly and is often reported to emit a high-pitched, blood-curdling scream. The Jersey Devil has become a part of New Jersey folklore and is a popular subject of local superstition.
Here are some books that feature Jersey Devil:
"The Legend of the Jersey Devil" by Trinka Hakes Noble is a book that delves into the folklore surrounding the Jersey Devil.
"The Jersey Devil" by James F. McCloy - This book explores the history of the Jersey Devil, discussing various encounters and the creature's place in local folklore.
"The Secret History of the Jersey Devil: How Quakers, Hucksters, and Benjamin Franklin Created a Monster" by Brian Regal and Frank J. Esposito - Although more of a historical analysis, this book examines the origins of the Jersey Devil legend and its evolution over time.
"The Jersey Devil" by Hunter Shea - A novel that presents the Jersey Devil as a winged beast from hell that haunts the Pine Barrens of Southern New Jersey
